Happy Sunday everyone and happy Pride Month!! It feels like warm weather is around the corner (check it out, June Gloom), we’ve had a chance to give extra Thanksgiving and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community, and our design projects are picking up steam. Overall, we want to rise up and focus on all the goodness that is around because it is incredibly important. Okay, now it’s link time!
This week’s home tour Colorful and bold, but in a traditional, ornate style. The living room ceiling is gorgeous, and the home overall is full of inspiration (even if you’re not that adventurous in your home style :))
From Emily: Hey people of Portland!! is justin willman coming to townAnd you have to go (with or without kids). One of the best joys of parenting is sharing experiences together when everyone is equally involved in whatever it is. enter Justin WillmanOur family’s “wizard” of choice, who somehow isn’t a big household name yet. We watched his show, magic for humansDuring lockdown, then did a Zoom show with him, and then last year, when he came to Portland (already) his netflix specialWhich you also need to see), we took the kids, and it was one of the best nights out ever as a family. Now he’s no kid magician (don’t bring your kids), but for the 8+ crew and obviously adults, he’s very entertaining and refreshing, while still keeping a lightness and poignancy to what he does. He’s coming to Portland for two nights while we’re out of town, and the kids (and Brian and I) are so bummed to miss the new show that we might actually fly to Phoenix to see him. I can only recommend their live shows so much. Trust me, it’s worth every penny in terms of entertainment and making normal connections with whoever you go with. 10/10 experience.
Also from Emily: For any of you who are renovating or renovating an older home, grit and polish (Shout out to Kathy and Garrett) Rebuilt their site (our site is still working, I promise!) to make it so much easier to find their really strong and useful posts. You should definitely follow them on social media, but their blog is a reminder of how useful long-form design content can be (I’m obviously biased).
From Arlin: I was going to point out the thing that’s a big deal to me this week, but keep scrolling, and you’ll see that my friends have already taken the lead (spoiler: I wrote a book. Pre-order it now!) But okay, the design book I’ve been working on with my friend Fariha Nasser for the past three years may not have much to recommend it, but I did buy a new lovely rug that I’m recommending this week. Since I finally have a proper little lobby that isn’t covered with shoes, bags, and keys β bless the garage vestibule/mudroom β I’ve been working on decorating the place. While I wanted an old rug, I was also worried about keeping anything valuable there, because the sun shines right in front of our house every afternoon, and I was afraid of sun damage. I stuck to it Super Sweet and Super Affordable 3’x5β² About two weeks ago I fell in love with the wavy border and simple color-blocked floral print. This is a new design Rifle Paper Company’s collection for Loloi. I’m impressed that it’s a 100% wool, hand-crafted design, thick and sturdy, and retails for about $120 in this size. I got the plum color, but of course the other three shades tempted me.

if you don’t know Fariha NasirShe is an incredibly talented designer and DIY expert. We’ve been fans for a long time, and when we heard that our ARLYN was going to write her first DIY design book with her, home, improvedLet’s just say we were thrilled. And since some of us have been talking with Arlin throughout this process, we can also say that as talented as Fariha is, she is also kind and wonderful… very much. She really makes designing and DIY projects so accessible, and if you know Arlin’s writing, you know it will be warm, easy to understand, and fun! We couldn’t be more excited to have this book in our hands this September. we also know Importance of pre-orderSo do yourself, Fariha, and Arlin a favor and order nowπ
From Mallory: I wanted to recommend a tried and true product that I’ve had for over 5 years now: My CB2 Scrunch Lamp. Originally they were in my studio apartment, but I’ve brought them from home to home with me, and they always add so much personality to a room. Their scale is amazing, I love the pleated shade, and the pattern is so fun but looks good with almost everything. If you’re looking for a solid lamp, there’s a reason CB2 has had them in stock for so long! They are great.
From Caitlin: Parents of Teens: I have a great book for you! In 2007, in the midst of another Ebola outbreak, my mother gave me a copy of hot zone. It was graphic, terrifying, and absolutely fascinating β it completely changed the way I looked at science. I was just out of high school at the time (losing both of my grandparents had a huge impact on me!), but it inspired and intrigued me so much that I managed to get the highest grades in science in my year. This could be a transformative lesson for your children too! (Or for you too β it’s still a page turner after all these years.)
From Marlee: So a few months ago, our photographer Caitlin gave me a bottle of this Necessary lotion with the “Hinoki” scent because she wasn’t super into this scent – now it’s definitely strong and a little soapy, but once it settles into your skin, I’m not so bothered by the scent. It wasn’t my favorite scent, but the feel of the lotion was so nice that I didn’t care. A few months later, I was meeting my friend for dinner and was surprised by her scent. After asking her what perfume she wore, I was very surprised when she said, βNone, it’s just mine eucalyptus lotion essential” The smell was so good I had to get it for myself. It’s a splurge, but it’s not an everyday lotion β it’s the kind you use only a few times a week because it feels like such a treat. The scent is definitely strong at first, but once it hits your skin, the scent is amazing – it leaves you smelling so clean and fresh. I also feel that it absorbs into your skin very well and doesn’t make you feel sticky at all. This will definitely be in my rotation for a long time π
From Gretchen: I love going to live music with friends, but often we find ourselves fleeing to the stage (and speakers) to dance. It’s a lot of fun but apparently it can also be very fast. Normal earplugs work fine, but I recently upgraded to these loop earplugs After a recommendation from a friend, and they are much better. They fit very well in your ear and come with a variety of plug insert sizes to get the right fit for you. But I really like that the little ring you have in your ear looks chrome, so the whole thing looks more like jewelry and less like neon sports equipment. They come with a nice little carrying case and are coming with me to all future shows!
From Jess: My jaw dropped open when I saw New Reformation collaboration with Cornetti Gro. Now, this was my first hearing about Courtney, but when I went her instagram accountOf the people I follow, 48 follow him! I know this collaboration won’t be for everyone, but check it out these shoes, this windbreaker (very popular), this dressand more. I would pick up the entire collection in a heartbeat.
Also from Jess: With this post already scheduled, we had 1 hour until the end of Friday’s summer half day (thanks, M!) I saw this collab pop up on my feed…On Friday, Left Swim and Claire V.!!!! We all love Claire V and I’ve been a huge fan of Left on Friday since getting my first swimsuit from them this year. Their suits are made to be more active, so they’re not tiny bikinis that can only fit a butt cheek. Anyway, this whole collab is super cute, so if you need a new suit or some great accessories, I suggest taking a look π Big week in fashion collabs!
We really appreciate you spending part of your day with us, and we’ll see you tomorrow!
