Last year, we didn’t shoot our house decorated for Christmas because it looked exactly the same as last year (so why spend the time or money?). But this year, with the arrival of two new pieces of furniture (our amazing barb sofa), I felt excited to decorate, show, and tell. But November is pretty much March Madness for content creators, so I really didn’t have time. PlanInstead I completed it with what I had in the garage and a trip to the Mill & Fabric store. So despite thinking I could just pull it together, the day of shooting was difficult (in the beginning). The first big pull back shot took no less than 2 hours to finalize. Like a one shot, styled 80 different little variations (if I didn’t like it so much, it would be really annoying). I tried every combination of pillows, throws, coffee table accessories, and it wasn’t until we hit the above version with pops of pink and ochre, that it came together. It wasn’t what I anticipated (I thought I’d lean towards the Ralph Lauren trend, but it wasn’t working!!). So here’s a playful, whimsical, Scandi version of our living room with a family tree filled with DIY and sentimental ornaments. It is very comfortable and fun to live in.
Pre-Lit Fake Trees Tree Skirt (Unavailable) , Garland (clear glass Or colorful, Twinkle Light Curtain , burgundy pillow , blue pillow , throw blanket
Entourage is a dream to shoot, and Caitlin always pulls it off. This year, I bought yardage of plaid taffeta (fashion fabric) and divided it into wide and long ribbons. I like how they emerge in the light, and it binds That incredible Anthropologie blanket And school pillow ,target pillow Behind it!).

blue velvet wooden pillow , Sweater , skirt , Titus shoes (old)
Be it day or night, everything shines here. you can’t really see curtain light In the photos, but y’all, if you have the right window they are 100% worth the expense – very delicate and shiny. When we did the sweater fashion shoot a week ago, I had different pillows, but once I found that red plaid blanket, I wanted to amp it up a bit and make it look a lot like here. shout out to Those pre-lit alpine trees Then, add the best shine and tons of effects for almost zero effort.

pre-lit garland , round bells , big bells , blue square pillow , green plaid blanket , woven basket , blue round pillow , burgundy blanket
I love this vignette. No one ever sits here, but every time I walk down the stairs, I see it and get that burst of dopamine that only style junkies have. I added more books and frames to give it a cozy library feel (all the gold frames are filled with Santa photos over the years – a great hack and tradition that’s never too late to do). I also love the combination of the floral trade chaise and more modern lamps with hits of cobalt. school pillow And throw,

pre-lit garland , round bells , big bells
plug-in lit garland is excellent, and I compensate for the asymmetry by adding at least 10 strips of fabric or ribbon to the left. bells from world market(TBH, I threw away what we had from last year and then added the pattern and bells on top of that),

round burgundy pillow , burgundy blanket , ocher bolster , paper trees , snowflake mug , candle , custom mushroom stool
This was the shot I couldn’t finish for 2 hours, and it’s definitely not as cohesive as my other designs, but I really like the vibe of it. Once we added a quilted mushroom from the art barn and accordion tree On the coffee table (from AllModern), I said, “Okay, let’s have pattern, color, and fun”. And yes, my family made paper chains from leftover wallpaper patterned samples (but you can barely see the patterns, even in person).

blue barb sofa , round pillow , blanket , velveteen pillow , Mini Fox Pre-Lit Alpine , white ceramic house
I love this shot. blue barb There is barbing, and it sounds charming and fun, like these guys want you to have a good time (pretty accurate). We never had an adults-only party; We’re a fraternity house for families with young children, so being more eccentric just feels right. And while I love a curated tree, I love our family tree more, each ornament of which tells a story. “Henderson Ornament Night” is where I’m shamelessly at “extreme stupidity”, and my kids love it too, even if they want to say it’s cheesy 🙂

Elliot got home in time to get the shot with me – listen, I try not to include them in my work/photos, but it’s really hard when she wants to sit on the pillow with me. I went a little extra on the mantle this year, which sometimes makes me wonder “too much?” As it seemed. But most of the time I like it.

wooden beads rosary , gingham bow , fake wreath (same) stocking garland , herd deer (same) Green Wooden Tree (Unavailable) | fake garland , wooden pliers , flameless taper candles Stockings (unavailable)
Most of the styling we already had, but we added Advent stockings (full of candy and kindness signs), and we painted the black mirror deep rose, which really softened the whole vignette in the best of ways. fake taper Still going strong, and the schoolhouse socks are so playful and fun, while the white color is popping up very well. large gingham bow is new (from Anthro), and Nutcrackers Older than Michaels. It’s a lot, but it makes me very happy.

rechargeable table lamp , multicolored wood , burgundy pillow , striped velvet wood , floral tapestry pillow , blue round pillow , pre-lit garland , round bells , big bells
little corner got an upgrade Cutest Pleated Rechargeable LampAnd we changed out the pillows to make them pop a little more. I’m obviously interested in mushroom feces (not a typical obsession, but here we are).

plaid dog bed , pink barb sofa
Around 3pm, it became so bright and comfortable (a few hours later, it’s even better – but it’s much harder to shoot!). It’s definitely busy and layered (which is why we kept the style of the kitchen so simple), but when you’re in the room, it feels so cozy, warm, comfortable and inviting. oscar is modeling us new pendleton dog beds from Chevy (which are definitely huge – I bought two “large” ones, which I’m now using as floor pillows in my family room survivor Spent nights in front of the fire/TV, and then I ordered mediums instead of going here, which didn’t arrive on time). However, I love the plaid color palette in this room.

I really, really like how this came together. It’s not quite the “Ralph Lauren” vibe I had planned, but just so you know, I have to shoot it again this week for a magazine (for 2026), and I’m going to use green alice sofa And look how hard I can lean into red/green/kitsch. You don’t have to ask me out twice…twice 🙂 I’ll give you a sneak peek here, I promise (and on stories too).
