Eggless cookie dough is one of those easy dough recipes as it is very quick to prepare and the cookies made from this dough are perfect. This dough has a soft buttery flavor, and its texture feels smooth and slightly chewy, almost like regular cookie dough but without the eggs added. You can use it to make all types of cookies.
This is a very easy recipe when you don’t have to put in a lot of effort. The flavor is mild and comforting, and the dough hardens when cooled. When I’m planning cookies for the weekend I make it a day in advance, because the dough stays good in the fridge for a long time. This gives a clean base, so you can later add chocolate chips, nuts, or anything else you like.

About Eggless Cookie Dough
Eggless cookie dough is a mixture of flour, butter and sugar mixed together to form a smooth, soft dough. It remains a little soft when fresh but becomes hard after cooling for some time. This recipe has a buttery flavor with a slight hint of vanilla, and the sweetness isn’t overpowering, so you can easily pair it with any add-ons.
This type of flour is very common in basic home baking, especially for those who don’t like to use eggs. The butter and sugar get creamy when whipped, and the flour gives the structure to bring everything together. If you want a different taste you can adjust the sugar, add cocoa, add sprinkles or even change the almond essence.
This is a very fine dough, even if you don’t knead it completely, it still turns out good. Since there are no eggs, the dough stays stable in the fridge and doesn’t get sticky as easily. Some people fry the flour before using it but mostly we keep it simple. It also works well for cutting cookies, dropping cookies or even using them as a layer in some desserts.
I usually make a small batch and keep it in the fridge, so when I have a little free time in the evening I take some dough, quickly shape it and bake it. This saves a lot of effort and the kids love getting to choose what to mix.
This basic cookie dough recipe has been my keeper recipe ever since I started baking cookies for Mittu regularly. There is no rising agent in this cookie dough recipe so it is best suited for kids too.
When Mittu was about 4 years old, whenever we planned to go out for a movie or for a long time, I would make these cookies and pack them for him so that he did not have to buy snacks from outside vendors. I usually bake it like this cut out shortbread cookies Just the way she likes it.

Eggless Cookie Dough Ingredients
- flour/maida – I’ve used this as a main base and it helps the dough stay firm and hold its shape after chilling. Later when you cook it it gives a soft crumb. You can also use wheat flour but the cookies may turn out to be a little dense.
- butter – I have used butter at room temperature so it gets creamy easily. It gives a rich buttery taste. You can also use homemade butter, it gives a slightly rustic taste.
- Castor sugar – I used powdered granulated sugar because it mixes quickly with the butter and doesn’t give a grainy feeling. This increases sweetness and you can change it as per your taste.
- vanilla essence – I have used it for flavor and it smells mildly nice. You can also add almond essence or cinnamon powder instead for a different taste.

Expert Tips
- mix the butter well – Keep in mind that beat the butter and sugar well until it becomes soft and creamy. I usually beat in a little extra as it gives a nice texture to the cookies after they are baked.
- chill the dough – It can be refrigerated for at least an hour so that it sets well. Try not to skip this step as it helps the cookies maintain their shape.
- use powdered sugar – I used powdered sugar because it mixes faster, regular sugar takes time to dissolve.
- adjust taste – You can simply add chocolate chips, nuts, cocoa, cinnamon or anything you like. I usually add whatever I have at home.
- do not over mix When the dough comes together, stop mixing. If mixed for too long, the cookies may become a little tough.
serving and storage
After baking cookies using this dough, serve them hot with tea or milk. It also tastes good as a small dish due to its mild buttery taste. You can easily store the remaining flour in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks. If it becomes too hard, leave it out for a few minutes before shaping. There is no need to freeze unless you want to keep it for a long time.
general questions and answers
1.Can I skip the vanilla?
Yes you can leave it. You can also add any other essence of your choice.
2.Can I freeze this dough?
Yes, you can freeze, but honestly storing in the fridge works fine for a few weeks.
3.Can I use wheat flour?
You can use it, but since wheat flour is heavy, the cookies turn out to be a little dense.
4.Can I reduce sugar?
Yes, you can reduce this and the dough will still stick well. Just mix properly.
5.Is it okay to eat flour raw?
It is egg-free so is mostly fine, but I usually only give small portions, avoiding raw food.
