About Nutella Cookies
Nutella cookies are homemade cookies with Nutella as the main ingredient. This gives the cookie a chocolatey flavor and soft texture. The dough is very easy to handle and does not require chilling at all. This makes it very suitable for beginners too. It does not take much time and children like it very much.
The texture of these cookies is soft with slightly crunchy edges. They do not expand much while cooking, hence they retain their shape well. This recipe is soft from inside and melts in the mouth when heated. The Nutella in this recipe gives that richness without adding extra cocoa powder.
These cookies are made using both all purpose flour and whole wheat flour. This provides a good balance between taste and texture. The butter softens them and the baking powder gives them a little lift. Milk is added just enough so that everything comes together.
I usually make these cookies when I need something quick in the evening. Once ripe, it does not last long even at home.

Nutella Cookies Ingredients
- Flour – I have used flour to give the cookies a soft and light texture. This helps in binding well. You can also replace some part of it with wheat flour.
- whole wheat flour – I have added wheat flour to make it a little healthier. This gives the cookies a slight bite. Using both flours works well here.
- unsalted butter – I used butter at room temperature for the creaming. It makes the cookies soft and rich. Do not melt the butter or the texture will change.
- Nutella – I have used Nutella for chocolate flavor and sweetness. It gives rich flavor to the cookies. If you like spicy taste then you can add a little extra.
- Castor sugar – I have used powdered sugar so it mixes easily with the butter. It is equally sweet.
- baking powder – I added it for a slight increase. This keeps the cookies from becoming too dense. Always use fresh baking powder.
- Milk – I have used milk only to knead the dough. I added little by little to gain control. The quantity depends on the flour used.
- vanilla essence – I added for extra flavor. It balances the chocolate flavor well.

Expert Tips
- butter temperature -I use room temperature butter for this recipe. If the butter is cold, it will not cream properly and the texture will be affected.
- creamy steps – I cream the butter, sugar and Nutella just until smooth. Do not overbeat otherwise the cookies may become flat.
- Milk – I have slowly added milk one spoon at a time. Do not add too much milk, the dough becomes sticky and difficult to handle.
- handling dough – I just collect the dough, don’t knead it. Over-handling will result in the cookies becoming tough even after baking.
- cooking time – I remove the cookies when the edges are set but the center is still soft. Do not overbake as the cookies become hard after cooling.
serving and storage
Serve these cookies hot with milk or coffee. They taste really good when fresh out of the oven. You can also pack these for snack boxes. Store remaining cookies in a clean airtight container. These cookies stay good for a few days at room temperature.
general questions and answers
1.Can I use only wheat flour?
Yes, you can use only wheat flour, but the cookies will be a little denser. The taste will still be good but the texture will change slightly.
2.Why did my cookies become hard after cooling?
Most of the cookies were overbaked or had overmixed dough. Bake just until the edges are set and do not over handle the dough.
3.Can I skip the vanilla essence?
Yes, you can skip it if it is not available. The vanilla only adds additional flavor, the cookies still taste like chocolate.
4.Do these cookies spread while baking?
No, these cookies do not spread much, they hold their shape well so flatten them a bit before baking.
5.What can I add to it?
You can also add chocolate chips or chopped nuts but add them slowly while kneading the dough, this makes the cookies more delicious.
