Sandwich Chutney is a fresh and delicious green chutney made using coriander, mint and coconut. It is mostly used in sandwiches, chaats and can also be used with many snacks. This chutney is very easy to prepare and can be made in just a few minutes without much effort. There is no need to cook it which makes it much easier.

The taste is fresh, slightly spicy and slightly spicy. The coconut adds mild sweetness and also balances the spicy flavor of mint. This chutney also makes plain bread or toast taste good. I think it adds a refreshing flavor to a simple sandwich. It helps to save time in the morning.

    About Sandwich Chutney

Sandwich chutney is a popular green chutney mainly used in Indian street style sandwiches. It is a little different from regular green chutney as coconut is added to it. Coconut makes the chutney thick and smooth which is perfect for spreading. This texture makes the sandwich taste even better.

The texture of this recipe is thick but still smooth. You can add water little by little, if it becomes too watery it will soak the bread and make it soggy. Mint and coriander give nice green color and fresh aroma. That fresh aroma comes out only during grinding. You can also use it in chapatti or kati roll.

This chutney is very flexible and can be used in many ways. You can spread it on bread, use it in chaat or even serve it with cutlets. Lemon juice adds mild spiciness and keeps the chutney fresh for some time. Sugar is added sparingly to balance all the flavours. This does not make the chutney sweet at all.

I usually make this chutney fresh and keep it in the fridge for busy days. This is a chutney that I often make at home. Sometimes I make it even twice a week.

    Sandwich Chutney Ingredients

    • coriander leaves – I have used for main flavor and green color. This gives freshness to the chutney.
    • Mint leaves – I have added for cool taste and strong aroma. This refreshes the chutney. If you don’t like the strong taste then you can reduce the mint.
    • grated coconut – I have used for thickening and mild sweetness. If not fresh, frozen coconut is also fine.
    • Green chilly – I used a long variety for the spice. It adds heat but not too much. You can add more or less as per taste.
    • Sugar – I have added a little bit to balance the spice and spiciness. This does not make the chutney sweet. You can skip if you want.
    • lemon juice – I used it for mild spiciness and freshness. Due to this the green color also remains intact. You can also use vinegar.

    Expert Tips

    • water control – I always add water little by little while grinding. Try not to add too much at a time otherwise the chutney will become watery.
    • grind texture – I grind it into a smooth paste so that it can be easily spread on the bread. If it is thick, it will be difficult to spread.
    • fresh leaves – I usually use fresh coriander and mint leaves. Older leaves can sometimes taste bitter.
    • spice balance – I adjust the amount of green chili depending on who is eating at home. For children I add less.
    • storage – I keep the chutney in a clean airtight container. Since coconut is added I finish it in a day or two.
