happy Sunday everyone. For Black History Month, we wanted to make sure you all knew about some of our favorite brands and creators, just giving extra love and awareness because celebrating (and feeling celebrated) is important. So a lot of our links this month will be based around a theme (although it doesn’t have to end when March starts). Let’s visit these links!
This week’s home tour Beauty and lifestyle content creator tony bravoBeautiful home designed by incredible prom studio. This home is already in the running for our favorite of the year! It’s full of colors and patterns and makes your heart sing. Go check it out now!
From Emily: I’m feeling pretty inspired to share my love for Obama right now (Friday’s post on Truth Social from DT is sending waves of fear through me). For Christmas, I asked for Michelle Obama’s new coffee table book, which was probably about fashion, called vision. As you can imagine, it’s not just about her ‘fit’. She is so deep, so deep, so intelligent that she doesn’t spend her time just showing pictures of herself in beautiful clothes. Sure, the book is full of pictures (and it’s so fun to look at the fashion – the “why” behind what she wore with all these moments in time), but it’s also about feminism, expectations, beauty standards, race (there’s a whole section about her hair and what it means to have hair as a black woman), life in the public eye, and the importance of personal style as a message to send. To be honest, I wanted the book because I wanted a piece of it to be displayed in my living room, with me at all times. I admire them, and it’s nice to collect the works of people I admire. This is a wonderful gift. (Loved that episode too) call her daddy – It felt loose and fun, and I got to hear more of what I liked from him, as well as from the other side).
Also from Emily: Our second post from Brian personal newspaper Thus he decided to become the lead parent (yes, stay-at-home dad, but we’ve all used that term for any gender). Now I know the story, I’ve lived it, and while there are points in the process we both want to forget, I knew how it all happened. And yet I was completely thrilled, and I cried 3 times (I’m very close to this, obviously). I’m so proud of him for being so open and owning up (and not to mention being such an extraordinary leader). I know not everyone’s experiences with men are as positive as mine, but man, this generation of men in our lives are wonderful, totally involved fathers. We have more leading parents in our lives than I anticipated, and it’s pretty remarkable. Anyway, just wanted to flag it in case you missed it yesterday or if this was the post you were waiting to read. It’s very weak and yet entertaining.
Here are this week’s Instagram highlights:
From Arlin: O-Cedar Spin Mop This is not a new invention, and you have probably seen it or may have had it for years. But I haven’t, so now I’m singing its praises in case you were a holdout like me. I’ve been using Swiffer Wets or the Upgrade Wet Jet for years before I got the Tineco. And while I love the ease of my wet-dry vac, it no longer serves the purpose of giving a good, solid clean/clean of my floors. Some places, like my kitchen and bathroom, need a stronger hand than I can get from Tineco. So after using this spin mop at my daughter’s co-op preschool, I decided to buy a spin mop for myself. Suffice it to say, I’m very pleased with it!
From Jess: If you’re unaware cloud homeOh my god, you’re in for a treat. The vintage collection is amazing, the contemporary artists they have are amazing, and they even have their own series. The prices aren’t very cheap, but you won’t regret it even if you’re just looking for inspiration. Also follow Cloud Home on Instagram!
From Marli: A New Hair Product for You – I Just Found It hair oil From the ROZ brand, and it’s very tasty. The smell is amazing – it’s an intensely refreshing, bright, yet subtly jasmine-like scent. It’s super lightweight and when I use it on my dry hair it really helps combat my frizz, and I love that I can put it on my wet hair, and it protects against heat up to 450 degrees. I have been loving it!
From Gretchen: Not gonna lie, things have been feeling extra depressing lately. Last weekend, I participated in Labor against ICE march in Portland And experienced tear gas for the first time. It was painful and scary, and it left me slightly depressed thinking about the state of our world. If it’s not ICE, it’s a horrifying reminder of gross economic inequities, blatant racism, police brutalities, not to mention horrific global genocides, and before I can blink, a new rabbit hole about the Epstein files. It may feel very dark, but wallowing in it won’t help it heal. I need more light to balance my life—literally. In the midst of my bleak Doom Scroll days, a beautiful product and creator came to my screen to throw a beautiful band-aid over these tough feelings. taika pride is an incredible designer known for her Viral (and genius) wall lightingWhich looks like modern art but glows like a sunset. At first glance, up close, these large canvases look exactly like abstract art. But when turned on, their lights really transform a space. Honestly, the video shows it better than I can explain, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it since. Turns out she offers them in many shapes, sizes and sun sequences. I was torn between sunrise and sunset, but ultimately chose the latter because it is the phase of light that brings me the most joy. And I am hoping that this artistic light can bring me more joy whenever I need it. I just bought it this week, and I guess because of its viral-ness, it looks like it’ll take a while to arrive, so I’ll have to let you know how I like it. But shipping was free, and the price seemed reasonable, especially if you look at it as buying a new piece of art as well as a new lamp. Taika’s other designs are equally stunning. Check out her shop! it swivel chair Totally a showstopper.
From Mallory: If you’re in the market for some new home decor – this is your place! God is full of amazing pieces – like this candlestick And these amazing plates. I have followed them on Instagram For a while now, and their pieces are always spectacular. Definitely check them out!
From Caitlin: Are you following? mikel welch On Instagram? His video production has been out of this world lately – every piece of content he’s shared this year looks like it came straight out of a Wes Anderson film. We’re big fans of his here (did you know he interned at A Stylist’s Secret Before teaming back up with EHD skillshare course In 2021?!), and I’m an even bigger fan of his latest book, forever homeA must-have for any lover of curated, innovative, timeless design. As if that’s not enough, you can also see her as the household expert on Drew Barrymore’s talk show. He’s simply crushing it on all platforms – social, TV, books, airplanes (yes, you can watch that Skillshare class on American Airlines flights – M is also available!)… If you’re not following him yet, it’s time to join!
