About Cream Cheese Sandwich
Cream Cheese Sandwich is a no-cook recipe that can be prepared in just a few minutes once all the ingredients are ready. The base is soft bread slices and the filling is made of cream cheese mixed with finely chopped vegetables and spices. If you want to keep the outer layer of the sandwich a little crispy, you can also lightly toast the sandwich.
The texture of the filling is creamy and yet slightly crunchy which makes it a delight to eat for both kids and adults. This type of sandwich is not very traditional but due to its ease and simple taste it is very popular in many households. Applying butter in between prevents the bread from getting soggy.
Vegetables like onion, capsicum give crispness and flavor to the stuffing. The carrots and corn add a little sweetness in between and balance the flavor without making it too strong. The herbs and black pepper add mild seasoning and nice aroma.
You can also try variations to this recipe as per your choice, you can also add grated carrots or finely chopped cucumber for added freshness and colour. This sandwich is extremely versatile, and its filling can also be used for rolls and wraps.
I usually make this when I have leftover cream cheese in the fridge. Sometimes I prepare the filling a little ahead of time and assemble the sandwiches just before serving time. Both Mitthu and Gugu are fond of this sandwich.

Cream Cheese Sandwich Ingredients
- pieces of bread – I used regular white bread for this sandwich. You can also use brown bread or multigrain bread.
- cream cheese – I used homemade cream cheese for the filling and it gives creamy and rich taste to the sandwich. This helps bind all the vegetables together.
- Onion – I chopped it finely to add some crispiness and flavor inside the filling. It adds freshness and a little flavor.
- Capsicum – I added it to the sandwich for color and light crunch. I have used red and green capsicum.
- corn – I have used boiled corn to add mild sweetness and a soft bite in between. It just balances the spices and gives texture to the filling.
- Chili flakes – I have added it for spice in the mixture. You can adjust the quantity as per your spice level.
- freshly ground black pepper – I have added for extra flavor and a touch of mild spice.. You can freshly crush black pepper if you want a stronger flavour.
- mixed herbs – I used it for extra flavor and a little Italian style touch. If not available then you can skip it but it tastes good.
- butter – I spread a little butter on the bread slices before adding the filling. This adds softness and prevents the roti from becoming soggy.

Expert Tips
- cut vegetables – I usually chop the onion and capsicum finely so that the filling gets spread evenly. Large pieces may tear the bread while spreading. I grate the carrots and add them.
- cream cheese – I used homemade cream cheese straight from the fridge so that it was thick and spreadable. It should not be too sticky as it may make the sandwich soggy.
- spread butter – I always spread a thin layer of butter before adding the filling. If it is kept for some time, it prevents the bread from getting soggy.
- trim the edges – I trim the edges, you can keep the edges if you agree with it.
- Cutting – I cut into triangles or squares. Press gently while cutting so that the filling does not spill out from the edges.
serving and storage
Serve it with tomato ketchup or green chutney. It also goes well with evening tea or simple fruit juice. Keep the remaining filling in the refrigerator for a day and use it when needed, do not keep more than that. Do not keep the sandwiches assembled for a long time as the bread may become too soft and slightly soggy.
