happy Sunday everyone. In case anyone is curious, our wonderful Arlene has arrived safely in North Carolina! If you missed his post on the why and how, go here. This is also a big step, that’s why he needed a week off 🙂 So with that being said, let’s wrap up this week with our links.
This week’s home tour He is one who has lived many lives! It had a grocery store, a café and a soft drinks shop. You have to see how it was restored into an incredibly nice home.
From Emily: Last weekend, in 77 degree temperatures in Portland, in bright sunshine, we had a lot of people come for Easter, so people were not prepared. I had to break out all my backup affordable sunglasses for my friends, followed by the usual “wow, I love these sunglasses” comments. I recently stocked up on my Goodr shades (amelia earhart style For me) because they’re so lightweight, they have a light soft texture that sticks to your face really easily (even when really active), and they do a great job at what they’re supposed to do – blocking the sun. I obviously think they look good too, otherwise I wouldn’t buy them again. They’re $30 – $40, so buying 5 for me, Elliot, Charlie, and guests felt like a solid stock-up purchase before summer. brian gets it version. Y’all, honestly, these are very hard to bounce back from. They are very good.
From Mallory: When I moved into my boyfriend’s house a few months ago, our closet only had one rod for hanging clothes, and there was a ton of wasted space above and below the rod, so none of our clothes fit. Well done, great cut into our first project: renovating our closet! We’re working with CA Closets to put up some gorgeous cabinetry so we can fit everything in there, and I’m so excited! We’re getting pretty close to finishing it (can’t wait to share more), and we just finished installing cabinetry (yay!) Since we’re now finally using up our vertical space, I’ve been looking for a cute step stool that can live on the closet floor. Turns out the cute step stool market is pretty bleak – until I found It’s by Pierce and Ward. This is the best on the market right now!! I love little things, and walnut is so pretty! I’m very impressed with their entire line at West Elm, it’s great.
From Caitlin: I’ve been following Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI, for about 13 years — he was There were startup gurus when I was starting my own small business, and I followed their advice. More than a decade later, I’ve been immersed in the insane behind-the-scenes reporting that details the chaos inside his company. enter: Ronan Farrow’s latest New Yorker pieceIn which Sam’s former friends and colleagues call him a sociopath who will stop at nothing until he achieves his goals. I have read some books about him – this one was good — but that’s nothing compared to the drama and name-calling reported in depth in this piece. I remember being deeply impressed by the way one of his mentors years ago described him – “You can jump with a parachute [Sam] Go to an island full of cannibals and come back in 5 years and he will be king” – and it’s interesting to see how these personality traits have evolved over time as Sam leads one of the largest businesses in the world. I mean…would you trust this in terms of the future of technology and America’s GDP growth? This is an interesting read that will make your head spin.
From Marley: My boyfriend and I are going to Tokyo this week, and I’m super excited (open to info if anyone has any 🙂 I’m also going to Osaka + Kyoto!). I sleep very badly when I travel, so before my trip, I’m making sure I have all the sleep essentials available. in melatonin gummies Are wonderful, don’t taste weird, and I find I don’t feel too tired in the morning – I like that it’s quite a bit, so you can take more if you need to, but you don’t have to. I also can’t live without this sleep mask – The way the band is super wide instead of a thin, elastic strap, it’s incredibly comfortable, doesn’t mess up my hair as much, and stays on better at night. Also, I can’t live without my hatch for white noise, but I’m trying to pack light, so I’ll be prepared with this 12 Hours of Brown Noise Podcast This is my favorite thing to do on Spotify when I travel.
From Gretchen: This is the year of the Fire Horse – if you weren’t already aware – which means this year will bring us new, intense energy, intense change, and freedom. I have been enjoying adding small horse figures to my home that remind me of leaning energy. One of my favorite local artists (and friends of EHD), Nicole, designed these beautiful fire horse mug. As soon as they dropped I just had to get one! It is so cute, unique and beautifully handmade. I love drinking coffee out of it or just staring at it on the shelf. check that out Other ceramic artVery Some really amazing pieces.
From Jess: My favorite, favorite white tank top is from the brand direction. They don’t sell exactly that anymore, but since the weather is getting warmer, I poked around on their site a bit and found this bridle tank (in white) and This wide strap tank (in black). No surprise, I love them too. They’re just the kind of tops that you can actually dress up or down because the quality is so good, the cuts are perfect, and yet they’re so simple. I will say that they scoop down a bit (not crazy, but enough), so for ease, I’ll probably wear mine. Cake As in my “bra”.
Thank you for spending some time with us. see you all tomorrow. xx
