Brown bread is a soft puffed bread made from whole wheat flour and yeast. It is made by making the dough rise and cooking it until it is completely cooked. It has a mild flavour, a soft texture and a light coating on the outside. When cooked properly, the inside becomes soft and airy and tastes great when bitten into.

This bread is a healthy option for daily use and works well for breakfast or snack at home. It can be used for sandwiches, toast or even homemade pizza bases. I usually make this during weekends and it gives the feel of fresh home-made bread in the kitchen. It is also good to store and use it for a few days without much change.

    jump to:

    about brown bread

Brown bread is a simple recipe made with whole wheat flour instead of refined flour and has a denser texture and flavor, while also feeling more filling. The dough is made using yeast which helps it to rise and become soft.

The texture of brown bread is soft on the inside and lightly crusted on the outside. Due to the wheat flour, it has a mild nutty flavor and tastes good when roasted. It holds a nice shape when cut and works well for toast and sandwiches. It feels more filling than white bread and keeps you satiated.

You can try variations on this recipe and adjust seeds like flax or sunflower seeds for added nutrition and flavor. You can also add a little flour for a softer texture so you can easily modify this recipe. Some people also add milk instead of water to knead thick dough.

I usually bake this bread at home when I want fresh bread without preservatives and it feels better to make it. It takes some time but the effort is worth it and the results are good. I like to cut it up and use it in breakfast or snacks at home.

    brown bread ingredients

    • whole wheat flour – I have used whole wheat flour for this bread and it gives an earthy taste and texture. If necessary you can add a little flour for more softness.
    • Water – Water is used to make the sponge and dough and helps bring everything together.
    • Sugar – Sugar is added to activate the yeast and give it a sweet taste. You can reduce if needed depending on your taste.
    • instant yeast – Instant yeast helps the dough to rise and become soft and fluffy. If you have active dry yeast, you can use that as well.
    • wheat flour – To knead the dough, wheat flour is again added to it and it gives structure to the roti. It also helps in shaping.
    • Salt – Salt is added for taste and balance and it also controls yeast activity. Don’t leave it in the flour.
    • Oil Oil is added to the flour to make it soft and it also helps in improving the texture. It also protects from dryness.
