Sweet Potato Fries is a simple crispy spicy snack made with oven baked sweet potatoes and spices. This is a healthier version of regular fries and can be enjoyed without any guilt. These fries are usually made for evening tea time, small snacks or even light dinner.

It becomes slightly crispy from outside while remains soft and sweet from inside. The spice coating provides a nice balance to the natural sweetness of the sweet potatoes. It tastes great with mayonnaise or tomato sauce. This is a breakfast that sounds simple but is still very satisfying when eaten at home.

    About Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet potato fries are fresh sweet potatoes cut into long sticks and cooked with some basic spices. Unlike deep fried fries, these are baked so they are lighter and less oily when eaten. Sweet potatoes have a natural sweetness that makes these fries taste different from regular potato fries.

The texture depends greatly on how evenly you cut the sweet potato sticks. If the pieces are uneven, some fries may cook quickly and some may not be ready until cooked. Black pepper, chilli flakes and garlic add spiciness and flavor but do not affect the taste much. Olive oil helps in baking and also gives a slight crispiness which makes it taste good to eat.

Sweet potatoes are also known for their health benefits and are more filling. It is rich in fiber and gives good energy to the body. When baked properly, the fries become golden brown on the edges and remain soft on the inside. Compared to regular fries, it feels lighter and less heavy. This makes it a good snack option for children too.

I usually make this on weekends when I want something salty but not deep fried. It is easy to make and requires very little effort. I often make this when sweet potatoes are already available at home.

    Expert Tips

    • Cutting – I cut the sweet potatoes into uniform sizes so it cooks evenly. Uneven pieces will cook faster and some may remain undercooked and some may burn.
    • drying – After washing the sweet potatoes, I dry them thoroughly. Try not to skip this step or the fries may become a little soggy while cooking.
    • toss – I just toss the fries once in the middle of the baking time. This helps it brown evenly from all sides.
    • oven temperature – I bake it at 200 degrees Celsius. And make sure the oven is preheated before placing the tray inside.
    • spice level -You can adjust the amount of pepper and chili flakes depending on taste and who is eating at home.

    serving and storage

Serve it hot with mayonnaise, ketchup or any dip of your choice at home. It goes well with evening tea or as a small starter breakfast. It tastes best when it is fresh and hot. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven or on a griddle before serving again. But I don’t recommend storing fried ones.
