    Making cream cheese at home requires just a few ingredients. It is quite cheap and you also get the self satisfaction of making it at home with very easy and minimal ingredients available in your pantry. Homemade cream cheese has a smooth, creamy, velvety texture and a mild tartness that perfectly balances its natural creaminess.

    There’s something incredibly satisfying about making your own cream cheese at home. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a soft, creamy flavor that tastes delicious. This recipe works just like store-bought cream cheese so is perfect for cheese cakes too.

    I have tried many cream cheese recipes till now but this one is the best and my favourite. It’s light but delicious, easily spread on warm toast, bagels, or fresh bread. Its texture is spreadable at room temperature but it becomes slightly thick after being kept in the refrigerator.

    I tried this recipe a long time ago when cream cheese was not available at my house and I used it to make cheese cake and it turned out very good. Since then I have been hooked to this recipe. Try it and let me know how you like it.

    • Milk – For best results use preferably full cream milk. It curdles more than toned milk.
    • Salt – To taste and balance the taste.
    • lemon juice – Lemon juice is added to curdle the milk. You can replace it with white vinegar.

    How to make cream cheese step by step

    1.Pour 4 cups of full cream milk in a saucepan.

    2. Heat the milk on medium high flame. When it starts boiling, reduce the flame to medium, then stir vigorously and start adding the lemon juice. We need 3 tablespoons lemon juice. Add it in batches. I added about 1 tablespoon lemon juice first.

    8.Place a cloth on a strainer. Add the mixture into it.

    11. Transfer the mixture to a mixer, add ½ tsp salt.

    Your homemade cream cheese is ready. When you want to use it, bring it to room temperature and then use it for frosting for your cheese cakes or cakes or use it as a spread for breads and bagels.

    • heating milk – Do not boil the milk too much, just heat it and cook on medium flame on low flame.

    Yes, for richer and thicker cream cheese you can add ¼ cup cream while mixing. However, cream cheese also turns out well using this recipe with just full cream milk.

    5.Can I substitute lemon juice?

    Yes, lemon juice can be replaced with white vinegar. The quantity is almost the same but it depends on the fat content of the milk so adjust accordingly.
