About Orange Jelly
Orange jelly is a simple dessert that still looks a little fancy when served. It turns out soft with a gentle, slightly crumbly texture that kids really enjoy. The taste remains light and refreshing, so you can eat it comfortably without feeling too spicy or heavy. This sweet is a must try for parties and get togethers also.
Depending on how your oranges are that day, the flavor changes slightly, sometimes a little tart, sometimes sweet. Many people add a drop of orange essence when the fruit aroma is too weak, but honestly, this is optional.
This orange jelly is a very easy dessert that you can make in just a few minutes and it will never fail to please. At first I was intrigued by the idea of using orange cups to set the jelly, it was a treat to the eyes.
When I made this orange jelly, I shared it with my neighbors and they also loved it. Mitthu likes any jelly so I like to make them at home, not that I don’t take it from outside but I try my best to avoid the ones from shops. Agar Agar works magic in jelly, it sets so well even at room temperature that even beginners can use it.
You can set this jelly in orange cups, small bowls or even small pretty molds if you want different shapes. Because of its bright color and smooth finish, it also works well as a layer in desserts, or sliced inside cakes for a little fruit flavor.
I usually make this when I have some oranges lying around and it looks like they will dry out soon. It takes hardly any effort, and I enjoy watching it set into a neat, wobbly dome inside the orange shells.

Orange Jelly Ingredients
- orange juice – I have used fresh orange juice as it gives real citrus flavour. You can also use packed juice when you do not have fresh juice.
- if if – I used China Grass strips because they help strengthen and clear the jelly. You can also use agar agar powder if that is easier for you.
- Sugar – I adjusted the sweetness taste, some oranges are too tart. You can add more or less depending on your fruit.
- Water – I added a little water to make the agar agar melt properly. This helps in softening the bandages quickly.
- orange essence – I have added a small drop only to give extra fragrance. If the smell of your oranges is already strong enough you can skip this.
- orange food coloring – I have used a little color to make the jelly look brighter. You can also leave it for a natural look.
