I have tasted Piri Piri Masala with French Fries only a few times and I loved it as I love all spicy dishes, even kids enjoyed it so I wanted to try it at home. After some trials I got the perfect taste and texture, so I thought of recording the recipe here.

About Peri Peri Masala
Peri Peri spice is an Indian spice blend that originated from Spain, Portuguese, South Africa. Peri Peri or Piri Piri means black pepper in Swahili. The term peri peri basically refers to spicy sauce and spice powder. It is also called piri piri masala or piri piri masala.
Peri Peri Masala is a spicy mix blend so if you are a lover of spicy food then you will love it. It has become globally popular these days. Peri Peri Masala can be used in French Fries, Bread Sticks, Barbecue Chicken, Crispy Corn and many other such crispy starters.
You can make peri peri masala at home in just 5 minutes if you have the ingredients available. I have used most of the ingredients readily available in the pantry. I left the citric acid alone, but in terms of taste it is very close apart from being slightly sour, I have replaced it with dry mango powder to get that tartness.
Piri Piri masala is known for its vibrant orange colour, spicy, tangy and pungent flavour. With just a few ingredients you can make instant peri peri at home. If you have all the ingredients, it will take only 10 minutes to make this spice mixture.

I always wanted to try peri peri masala, finally got a pack but it was too spicy, especially for kids. So that was the main reason for me to try it at home. I checked the ingredients list, googled and finally tried a homemade batch which was a huge hit so recreated it to post here. This Peri Peri Masala can be used for many dishes including starters, curries, chaats, salads etc.
Peri Peri masala can also be ground into a paste, but it has a very short shelf life, so I always prefer to make and store the dry masala mixture. Also it can be used for many recipes compared to wet paste.
Peri Peri Masala Ingredients
- kashmiri chilli powder – Added for bright color and slight warmth.
- chilli powder – To add spice to the mixture.
- garlic powder – Adds deep garlic flavor.
- onion powder – Adds a mildly sweet and earthy flavor.
- dry mango powder – Adds spiciness to the spice mixture.
- Salt – to taste
- black salt – Adds spiciness and flavour.
- Sugar – Gives mild sweetness to the mixture.
- freshly ground black pepper – Gives mild heat and flavour.
- oregano -Adds aroma, flavor and taste.

How to make Peri Peri Masala step by step
- Add the following ingredients to a mixer jar:
- 3 tbsp Kashmiri red chilli powder
- 1 tbsp red chilli powder
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tablespoon amchoor powder (raw mango powder)
- 1 tbsp celery
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 and ½ tsp black pepper powder
- ¾ tablespoon salt
- ½ tbsp black salt


2. Grind it finely in this way.


3. Cool and store in a clean airtight jar.


Peri Peri Masala is ready. You can use it for any starter like french fries, chaat, makhana etc

- Colour – The color of the spice mixture depends on the color of the chili powder. I used homemade Kashmiri chilli powder. But its color should be bright orange.
- Taste Test – You can taste it and adjust as per your choice.
- Use – You can use piri piri seasoning on fries, popcorn, or salads. Mix with oil or curd for marinade. Add to pasta, noodles, or roasted vegetables for instant flavor.

Store Piri Piri Masala in an airtight glass jar, away from sunlight and moisture. It stays fresh for up to 3 months when stored in a cool, dry place. It remains good in the refrigerator for up to a year.
