I mentioned it, promoted it. It was even sold as “my favorite room in the house” and today you’re going to see it (and decide for yourself). Although I love the living room (coming soon) and I’d probably give that trophy away too often, I’ve created this room with very little effort (aside from painting the walls a nasty dark blue that’s done a good job). I actually think at times it’s much more my style than my own house (which, as you know, is more of a traditional farmhouse, which I love incredibly much, but the light blue/green and wood room throughout is my heart).
This room helped a lot Anne UsherThe architect who put this room in the house with really beautiful light, huge windows and extremely high ceilings. So architecturally, we were already winning with his design. or maybe i should Stuga Credit for that flooring we put on the walls (we used). intention – It’s perfect) Because once it’s on, I swipe right and now I’m completely emotionally committed to this room. Till Death Do Us Part (or they’re finally selling and moving on, hahahaha).
walls

wall wood paneling , wooden floor , electric piano , artwork , frames
So yes, all the walls are covered drift paneling From Stuga, installed horizontally. We had a lot of stuff left over from all the ceilings, and while we didn’t love the dark blue room, we were thrilled to be able to lean strongly toward wood. It makes a room so warm and easy to design. It’s an instant-vibe. electric piano This is what we have โ the Roland encased in really nice looking faux white oak. On top of that, we created “6 Portraits of Odd Men”bedupri“It’s so whimsical and fun (and looks perfect here). target frame FTW.

cabinet paint color , glassware , 4 games in a row
Cabinets and shelves are painted a soft taupe called MalabarDrawn from the light tones of wood. Inside the shelves are his printer and home office supplies. And above I styled a lot of the things I had in my inventory and sent Katie and Ken on a trip to Powell’s to buy a bunch of the books they wanted (again as supplements). inWhich is both wonderful and very embarrassing).

Katie says they are all very attracted to this room for games, chess, puzzles, homework โ it’s just a room they want to be in that is still very close to the kitchen and living room.

Rundergraduate , chairs , table
we furnished it a rug From our vintage collection, which features lots of blue and green tones. I always wanted this rug to be more plush (because I want every rug to be plush), but man, the color is great, and that light stripe is really pretty. we found dark table From AllModern, and Katie spent (at my request) these chairs From Soho Home. Listen, this room is the first room you see when you enter the house. These chairs should be beautiful and special. The color is divine.

Oh, and yes, they have glass pocket doors that seal it off, although I’m not sure what their purpose is, except they look really pretty. They don’t mask much of the sound, but maybe a little? I love the look of them and I’m not responsible for designing them, but I love the way they’re made.

oscar sofa , long waist pillow ,Similar, cabinet hardware , drawer hardware
Oh God. What is she doing there??! It’s hard to give a “Belle” (but in a French maid dress and heels?). we have our oscar sofa Here in green tweed, the coziest, most comfortable (and best-selling) sofa in our collection is in navy blue velvet. We’ve always wanted to install sconces on the cabinet sides (and I think were wired for it too), but haven’t done it yet (and not sure we will).

Chandelier kills me. It is very large in both width and length, really attracting attention in the high ceilings. It is a piece of art, a sculpture, and still provides perfect lighting. it is from blueprint lightingWhich means you can customize the enamel and metal colors. We chose pearl and charcoal with natural brass and dropped it low enough that you could see the whole thing without looking up, but wouldn’t obstruct the view too much. This is perfect.
This room needed window treatments because it faces west, so we partnered with decoration To install motorized shades in soft taupe. We wanted it to disappear instead of being a feature. And since the top window is so high, the remote controls them up and down easily.

It’s not a very eclectic room with lots of surprises. But my goodness, vibrancy, tone, light and simplicity draw you in and make you want to just lie on the couch or play Connect Four (apparently, hahaha). Ladder Putnam, which we’ve written about here. We chose the Quiet Glide version with walnut stain and double rollers. It can be pushed in to make it more vertical for easy storage, but it also easily slides out from the front of the sofa.

The piano came with an adjustable bench that matched, but I got this stool Which looks much better than the world market ๐

fake potted plant , Entry Table (no longer available) , blueprint sconces
Thank you very much for one of the best fake trees I have ever seen (used many times in this house). I love this shot. The table in the background was mine, from Urban Outfitters years ago, and it doesn’t live here, but we added it for the shot. This inspired me to pick a small piece for here (this round is very aggressive, but could be a sideboard or demilune).

Tone, color, richness, and yet lightness. Y’all, I know this may not be everyone’s cup of tea (perhaps too simple or not extreme enough for many people), but I’m really proud of this room and how it sings softly and in unison.

And my brother’s family likes it. I think this is Katie’s favorite room too (though again, wait until you see the living room). It is easy to live in, easy to maintain, bright, and yet a warm space that invites you home and sets the tone. It sounds very balanced with warm and cool tones, enough of a pop contrast, but extremely cool. This is 100% my feeling, and we will live happily ever after together.
