    About Sukku Milagu Pal

Sukku Milagu Paal is a traditional South Indian drink. You can prepare Sukku Milagu Paal in very little time with basic ingredients, both the ingredients are known for their medicinal importance. This recipe is easy and does not require any special method. It is like simple herbal milk prepared at home.

This recipe is mostly made during cold weather or when someone is feeling feverish. The drink is steamed thoroughly so that the flavors blend properly. Cane sugar is added to balance the spices. Some people add some water to milk while giving it to children. This recipe can be adjusted depending on how spicy you want the spice to be.

The taste of this Sukku Milagu Paal is slightly spicy and sweet at the same time. Black pepper gives strong heat and dry ginger gives strong heat. If needed, you can also add a pinch of turmeric. If the powder is fine then there is no need to sift this recipe, but sifting makes it smooth. It should be served hot for better effect.

I usually make this when someone in the house catches cold. My family loves it before bed at night. Due to this, warmth is felt in the throat and chest.

    Sukku Milagu Pal Ingredients

    • Milk – I have used regular full cream milk for this recipe. Milk forms the base of the drink and tastes good, you can dilute it with a little water if necessary.
    • cane sugar – I added it for sweetness and to balance the spice. You can replace it with palm sugar or regular sugar as per availability.
    • dry ginger powder – I have added it just for heat and medicinal value. Make sure it is fresh and not too old to get better taste.
    • freshly ground black pepper – I add it to drinks to give them a spicy taste. You can adjust the amount depending on how strong you like it.

    Expert Tips

    • boil – I boil the milk on low flame so that it does not overflow. Slow simmering helps in flavor so mix well.
    • Taste – I add dry ginger and black pepper only after the milk starts boiling. This prevents raw taste in the drink.
    • adjust sweetness – I taste and then add sugar accordingly. Too much sugar can reduce the spicy effect.
    • dilute if necessary – If serving for someone suffering from extreme cold, you can dilute the milk by adding a little water. This makes it light and easy to drink.
    • always serve hot – It should be served hot only. Warm drinks provide better relief to the throat.

    serving and storage

Serve Sukku Milagu Paal hot immediately after it is ready. This drink is best consumed fresh. Do not store for long as the taste may change. You can reheat once before serving if necessary. Always shake well before drinking.

    4.Can I add turmeric?
