About Butter Corn
Butter corn is a delicious snack made by mixing and flavoring sweet corn kernels with butter, salt. It is enjoyed for its buttery richness and natural sweetness. Hot, delicious and easy to prepare, butter corn is a favorite among both children and adults.
Corn is typically boiled or steamed until soft, then sautéed in butter, often sprinkled with salt, pepper and optional spices such as chaat masala, paprika or herbs. There is nothing unique about this recipe, it is very easy with ingredients available in your pantry. You can make these for your children.
Butter corn is a popular quick dish in many households and is also a common item at fairs, cinemas and street stalls. Children often ask for this butter corn, so I make it at least once a month.
Seeing Mittu, Gugu also started liking butter corn and this is the influence of elder brothers and sisters. I love butter corn, but it’s too mild for my taste, so add more spices and make it spicy for me and hubby.

Butter Corn Ingredients
- sweet corn – Choose fresh tender sweet corn. You can use the corn by boiling it, dehusking the kernels and using them or use cut corn kernels which are easily available in the market or use frozen corn.
- butter – I used homemade unsalted butter so added salt. If using salted butter, omit the salt.
- spice powder – I have used black pepper powder and chaat masala powder, you can add any spices of your choice.

Expert Tips
- corn – Always choose fresh or good quality sweet corn (either fresh kernels or frozen). This ensures natural sweetness and mild taste. If you don’t get fresh corn you can also use frozen corn.
- cooking corn – Boil or steam the corn until soft. Overcooking can make it mushy and taste bland.
- Spices – Keep in mind that add spices to the corn only when it is hot so that it gets mixed well. You can also make it plain by using just butter. If you wish, you can add mixed herbs to it or increase or decrease the spices as per your preference.
- Spices – You can also add a pinch of red chili powder to it for extra spice. I like the mild spicy version, if you like more spice you can add roasted cumin powder along with red chili powder.
