I mentioned it, promoted it. It was even sold as “my favorite room in the house” and today you’re going to see it (and decide for yourself). Although I love the living room (coming soon) and I’d probably give that trophy away too often, I’ve created this room with very little effort (aside from painting the walls a nasty dark blue that’s done a good job). I actually think at times it’s much more my style than my own house (which, as you know, is more of a traditional farmhouse, which I love incredibly much, but the light blue/green and…

The first time I made chili cheese tater tot casserole, it was one of those nights where everything went wrong. I got home from work late, Lina had soccer practice until 6:30, and I’d completely forgotten to take anything out of the freezer for dinner. Standing in my kitchen at 7 PM staring into the pantry, I spotted a can of chili, a bag of frozen tater tots, and some shredded cheese. I figured worst case scenario, we’d order pizza. I dumped everything in a baking dish, stuck it in the oven, and 30 minutes later Lina said it was…

The first time I made Italian penicillin soup, Lina had been sick for three days straight with a cold that wouldn’t quit. He’d barely eaten anything except crackers, and I was getting desperate. My neighbor knocked on the door with a container of soup, said “this is what my nonna made whenever we were sick,” and handed it to me still warm. Lina took one spoonful and actually asked for more the first food he’d wanted in days. By that evening, he’d eaten two bowls and said his throat felt better. I texted her immediately: “What’s in this Italian Penicillin…

The first time I heard someone mention no bake moose farts, I was at a school bake sale and genuinely thought I’d misheard. Lina’s friend’s mom was selling these little chocolate-coconut balls, and when I asked what they were called, she said it so matter-of-factly: “no bake moose farts. They’re a Canadian thing.” I must have looked completely confused because she laughed and explained that despite the ridiculous name, they’re one of the most beloved no-bake treats from the East Coast. I bought six just because I needed to know what on earth a dessert called no bake moose farts…

The first time I made birria enchiladas, I was trying to figure out what to do with leftover birria from taco night. We had this huge pot of tender, chile-braised beef and about two cups of that rich, deeply flavored consommé sitting in my fridge, and Lina was already complaining he was “tired of tacos.” I stared at that leftover birria for a solid ten minutes before it hit me why not roll it in tortillas and bake it like enchiladas? What came out of my oven that night was honestly better than the original tacos. Why You’ll Love This…

A few years ago, I discovered the joy of the “Thanksgiving dress.” What is a Thanksgiving dress, you may ask? It’s a totally plaid/fall-patterned dress that’s super flowy and comfortable but still makes you feel cute (even when you’re sweaty from cooking all day and satiated from eating all day). I found an amazing thing at J.Crew that many of you bought and loved a few years ago (it’s no longer available, but Here’s one on Poshmark For one lucky buyer). I still wear it almost every year, and I’m sure many of you do too! Plus, it’s shocking that…

Last fall, we visited a small Italian bakery during a weekend trip, and sitting in the window was this gorgeous dark loaf studded with figs and nuts. The baker called it brown fig bread, and when she sliced us a piece to try, I understood immediately why people were lining up for it. The bread was dense but tender, deeply flavored with molasses-like sweetness from the figs, and had this incredible moist crumb that almost melted on your tongue. Each bite revealed pockets of soft, jammy figs and crunchy walnuts, with warm hints of cinnamon and a subtle nuttiness from…
