happy Sunday everyone! Did everyone see Emily’s toiletry purchase this week?? Laugh out loud. Design can be so much fun because you never really know what the next project will bring. Plus, we’re prepping for another EHD team retreat next week (so excited to see everyone together)! Hope everyone had a good weekend, and here are this week’s links ๐
This week’s home tour This comes from the duo we didn’t know we needed โ actor Jonathan Groff and designer Leyden Lewis!! It is a deeply personal space that was created by a special and immediate creative partnership. Go check it out!
From Emily: It’s the summer of Carly Fortune. From the editor The best-selling romance author is one of the best in the nostalgia + coming-of-age genre. This summer we got a new book of his (our perfect storm), which I’m almost done and I love it, but the real treat here is the new Amazon series based on his first book, after every summerWhich came to light a few days ago. This is great, especially for those of us closed premises withdrawal. This book was my favorite romantic comedy of that year โ it just sums up young love, + nostalgia + coming of age so well.
From Jess: In Emily and I’s effort to get you to consider Aritzia more, I purchased two new pieces for our summer vacation! These red silky, pull-on shorts They are “fancy athletic”. I’m wearing these as I type this! Their shine is so much more than it looks online, but let me tell you, I love them! I wore them to a casual dinner with a linen button-up and cute flats and loved it. Then pull-on pants are not my choice These brown and white striped linen pants With side drawstring ties. They’re very comfortable with their solid weight (not transparent), and the side drawstring is a fun detail that isn’t flashy. I sized up (mainly because it was their last size in the store), but I also liked the baggier, lower-rise look a little more. But otherwise, I’d say they’re true to size. Same with shorts!
From Gretchen: I stopped by J.Crew the other day and took a risk and it paid offโI bought it. a final sale swimsuit I didn’t even try until I got home. And to my great surprise, it fit like a glove! Now, for whatever reason, the price I paid in the store was a much better deal than the price I saw online at the moment (even if it was last sale online…come on, J.Crew!). I just gambled my $60 and thankfully I walked away with a perfectly fitting, reversible swimsuit. Two suits for the price of one, if you really think about itโeven better! The colors are very bright and poppy, and the fun plaid pattern makes for some nice camouflage for some areas of my body where I like more coverage. But I really like that the material feels so secure, and I feel confident that it won’t stretch. M raved about her J.Crew suit (check out her review here), which gave me extra incentive to try it for myself, and I’m really glad I did. Some customer reviews say that this particular suit may have a slight gap in the edges, and I experienced that too…until I tried tying it a different way. To make the style more like a tank top and less like a halter top I connected each top and back strap to each other, and that solved the problem perfectly. I’m really happy with it, but I would definitely recommend checking out their sales section in person if possible before making a final sales decision over the online price. Looks like they have 30% Sale Discount on Select ItemsIf you’ve been eyeing some other looks!
Need some Father’s Day gift ideas? Go here! Emily’s husband Brian and Jess’s father both revealed their top picks.
From Marli: I just cleaned out a big closet and found these shoes I’ve had these for at least 7 years now – I’m so glad I got them out because they are one of my favorite pairs of summer shoes. These are very easy to wear for swimming/pool days, gardening, etc. Since these are waterproof, they are very easy to clean and are extremely comfortable. Don’t get me wrong, I live in my Havaianas And rainbow For most summer – but when I want something more safe/supportive the Birks are a good option. They also come in lots of cute colors.
From Mallory: I don’t know why I put off buying Kleenex box covers for so long… I was sitting at my desk and finally I said, “Okay, I can’t look at this crazy green box for even a second,” and then added These Ratan people To my cart. Such a simple solution that makes these everyday objects beautiful ๐
From Arlene: I’m pretty bad at self-promotion, but Jess suggested I link to an article I recently wrote for Real Simple, and I thought, “Wait, I can do that?!?” Ha, I’m a fool. A piece I wrote just went live on Realsimple.com About my decision three years ago to leave a director-level job to spend more time with my young daughter. I explained in detail how I came to this decision โ especially given that I was the higher breadwinner in the family than my husband โ and how it had some unexpected emotional effects on me. In general, I don’t regret what I did at all. Do I miss my regular paycheck, PTO and bonus? Yes, but being able to be there for my child without anyone’s permission was absolutely priceless. And I fully recognize that not everyone has the privilege of working on a one-and-a-half (I was freelancing) income. We were more careful about our spending and basically didn’t spend on anything outside of necessities, but still, I know that’s not enough for everyone. If you are in a situation where you have to make difficult financial decisions for your family, I hope my article Helps you feel a little more seen.
Thanks for hanging out and see you all tomorrow. xx
