happy Sunday everyone. Hope we are all ok. We thought we’d take a second to promote our newsletter. Mallory is demystifying it by making it more fun and user-friendly. We don’t spam (we promise!), so if you haven’t signed up, go here! There’s a special and fun little new decorating guide if you do 😉 Okay, thanks for the link!
This week’s home tour The only one is that of Melanie Lynskey and Jason Ritter. It’s an explosion of patterns and textures filled with art and fabrics collected by Melanie herself. But what makes this layered and bold home look so harmonious is the low-contrast color palette (like Arlin talked about here). You just have to see it yourself.
From Emily: As I get older, the more I become inspired by my group of design influencers to innovate and constantly push themselves. Amber Lewis’s new YouTube series Designing her home in Southern California is fun and a sight to behold. She’s obviously incredibly talented in a million ways, but I love how it reflects her personality, and you get to see her team (which I always love when the spotlight is shined on the people who work so hard behind the scenes of big brands/people). I know how much work (and time and money) it takes to execute this level of production, great job, Amber. I hope it is successful!! If you like great design in snackable video editing, I think you’ll really like it.
Also from Emily: As another reminder! For all my Portland friends, I’ll be having a pop-up sale on Saturday, April 11th community warehouseWhere I am bringing 10 racks of clothes which are in good condition. An occupational hazard of the job is that I have to wear what’s currently there – clothes I legitimately like. But I can’t hoard clothes without purging, and most of my clothes aren’t expensive enough to go to consignment, but they’re in near-perfect condition, so donating to Goodwill feels sad. So I offered to do a pop-up for 4 hours, where The CW gets all the money from the sales, while I get to meet so many of you, which really fills my bucket. More details to come, but we’re thinking I’ll be there from 11-3 at the Community Warehouse location on MLK. I will bring a lot of other stuff that is sent to me that I don’t bring need – Think candles, beauty, some lamps/beds – all things that had to be shot, but in perfect condition. Think of a garage sale more than a flea market. Come say hello!!!
In case you missed this week’s Instagram highlights:
From Mallory: Finally (after years and years) I gave in and bought A new pair of UGG slippers!! I had done it in So long that the fuzz basically disappeared, so I thought, why not invest in a new pair? So I came to Nordstrom because I had a gift card and this time I tried the cards on the back…surprise surprise – I love them. I wear these almost every day and will literally never wear them back!!
From Caitlin: I’ve been spending nights and weekends cleaning my childhood home. I’ve found some incredible things, like an 1800s Bible from Sweden, photos of my family’s farm in Poland, a family tree that places my ancestors in New York in the 1700s (!!!), but I’ve also found nine hundred boxes of Christmas decorations and all the books from my childhood and my mom’s riding trophies and ancient cassette tapes. My immediate, emotional instinct is to keep everything – and I’m getting a storage unit for some furniture and art that I hope I’ll be able to use one day – but the sad reality is that I can’t store an infinite amount of ephemera. enter: This video is of Rajeev SurendraWhich reminded me to be ruthless about my clutter. Maybe it can help with your spring cleaning too? (PS. Once I get everything organized, I’m preparing the house for sale – my goal is to put the house on the market in May/June. But man, it’s overwhelming – I’ve never done anything like this) bought A house, so the thought that I would sell it never crossed my mind. I’ll take any and all suggestions on this front – when did you enlist your realtor? How well did you do? Did you repaint, or was the magic eraser enough? Do I need to get the road repaved? You’ll love any real-life stories about how you prepared to sell your home, and whether your investment was worth it. I have no family left to ask, have mercy on me!!!)
From Gretchen: If you’re like me and struggle with time blindness (my insane inability to get anywhere on time or quickly), you know how important it is to have visible clocks around the house. And I mean all around. Microwave clock? On (and set three minutes faster to give me a buffer). oven? Same deal. Bedroom alarm clock? Digital, visible, and generally yelling at me to get up. But the best trick I have is this These little digital watches from Ikea. They’re the perfect discreet size, battery powered (and last forever), and I’m not kidding when I say I have at least one in every room in my house. They’ve had them for a while, and I’ve collected them in other colors, but they’ve only released a fun cobalt blue color that I had to grab. Well, actually, I bought four. They’re only $2 (!!!) and a game-changer for me. Simple design, fun colors, functional and affordable!
From Marli: If you’re looking for a fun pair of shoes that can dress up a casual outfit, but can also be worn for long walks or hikes, I like these shoes From Keen. They come in lots of fun colors and are incredibly comfortable, so I can walk around in them for hours. I would say they are true to size! I have it too this pair of shoes From Keane for the past few years, and they are very comfortable. I like to wear shoes that aren’t “true” athletic shoes, but can make an outfit feel a little more sporty.
From Arlin: I used to follow an account on Instagram that shared vintage home tours and I loved it. I haven’t been able to find it since, but Architectural Digest just reposted it Barbra Streisand’s home tour from 1993 On their feed, and it was so funny for me to watch. Black and pink tiled kitchen. 1970s/80s Art Deco vibes. The fact is that her wardrobe is still relevant to today’s style! It’s wild and over-the-top and definitely a moment in time design-wise, but I wanted to share. Not a ton of images, but still an entertaining swipe. Does anyone else have other accounts that share similar things?!?
From Jess: Well, here are three videos that are really making me happy. So if you need a little smile, go here 🙂 I can’t stop watching this video And this video Ethan Hawke’s. Too, This “Dance Tech” Video The Hamnet cast is everything.
Thanks for hanging out with us today, see you tomorrow. xx
