    Kesar Doodh is a delicious soothing drink made from milk, saffron and sugar. It has a mild sweet taste with rich flavor and mild aroma of saffron. It is a little different from normal milk as saffron gives light color and special taste. This drink feels warm and soothing when you drink it.

    This recipe is usually made at night time or during festive times at home. It takes very little time and can be made quickly. You can serve it hot or cold depending on your preference. This recipe is simple and gives a relaxing drink without much effort. It is also good to take it before sleeping which helps in getting good sleep.

    Saffron milk also known as saffron milk is a traditional drink made in many Indian households. In this recipe, milk is boiled and then saffron is added to it to enhance its taste. Sugar is added for sweetness and everything is boiled for a few minutes. It is often served on special occasions or during the visit of guests.

    Saffron, the king of spices, is also known as Kesar or Kumkumappuvu. Only three varieties of saffron are obtained from one flower and it takes a lot of human labor It is produced in Kashmir and is said to be one of the most expensive spices.

    It is often recommended to consume saffron milk during pregnancy. Actually it is a myth that drinking saffron and milk regularly during pregnancy makes the baby fair. There is no proven fact that the color of the child depends on the consumption of saffron by the mother.

    Actually, saffron has a lot of health benefits which pregnant women can ignore in those days, so having said that it helps in having fair babies, many pregnant women may consume this saffron milk regularly.

    The texture of this drink is smooth and slightly rich, milk is its base and saffron gives a mild flavor and light golden colour. When it is boiled properly, it smells very good. It feels light but also adds a bit of richness. It is also comfortable to drink when served hot.

    You can try making some changes in this recipe. You can add some dry fruits like almonds or pistachios for added flavor and also add cardamom powder for more flavour. Also adjust the sweetness as per your taste and you can also use jaggery in place of sugar for different taste.

    I usually make it at night when I want something hot and simple. It is easy to make and feels comfortable to drink.

    • Saffron – I have used a few threads of saffron for flavor and color. It gives light aroma and golden hue.

    1. – Take milk in a saucepan and boil for 3-5 minutes.
