about chas
Namkeen buttermilk is nothing but a simple buttermilk with only salt without much flavor and is one of the most popular drinks during summers. I like to take it in the afternoon after cooking and when I feel tired as it is very refreshing and thirst quenching.
Buttermilk, it is also called salted buttermilk in many places. This recipe is a traditional Indian drink made by mixing curd with water and simple spices. It is made in many homes during the summer season. The texture of this recipe is thin and smooth, not thick and heavy like lassi.
The taste of curd is slightly sour and is balanced by salt and roasted cumin powder. Black salt gives a slightly earthy taste which makes the drink more refreshing. Coriander leaves add a mild herbal flavor and refreshing smell. The tempering of cumin seeds in oil gives a hot flavor and enhances the overall taste.
You can also try variations in this recipe as per your choice, for more spice you can add crushed ginger, green chillies or curry leaves. You can try mint leaves for extra cooling taste. You can adjust the thickness by adding more or less water as per your preference.
I usually make this recipe in the afternoon when the weather is hot. It gives a feeling of instant freshness and coolness from within.
