After a big weekend of sales and shopping, we thought it would be a fun and nice break to look back at some cute design inspo through the new design trends that we feel are growing rapidly. Hey, it’s one of our favorite pastimes to collect design data to see what we think will be great (or just a good medium :)). Some of these are more established, while some are educated ones that deserve attention. Anyway, we love them all, and if you love them too, they have the EHD seal of approval 🙂 Let’s get to the first one.
New Design Trends: Mixed Fabric Seating
Although mixing patterns on the same sofa, chair, bench, etc. is nothing new, it has definitely taken on a new life. I feel like I’ve seen them at almost every new home tour, and I love them all. This is usually (if not almost always) a custom job, but hopefully, as it becomes more popular, major retailers will take the hint and give us some affordable options! But if you’re a bit of a tailor, a custom banquette cushion and back rest may be in your wheelhouse, like the one above. I love the unexpected pairing of fabric patterns, but also that they’re both dark and a little moody.
Please scroll to the fourth slide of this carousel to see this incredible sofa! When you think of fabric mixing, patterns are the first thing that comes to mind (at least for me). But this color-blocked sectional only applies to solids. I hope to have a sofa like this in my future home someday. This is great!
Again, please scroll to the fourth slide. Here you see a mix of solid and patterned fabrics. This is a great (and safe) way to mix fabrics without the hassle of combining two different patterns. It looks just as amazing.
Slide 4 really seems to be the magic slide of sofa fabric mixing, huh?? Well, here’s another great example of mixing a pattern with a solid, except this time, the base is the solid color, and the seat has the pattern. You really can’t go wrong. But if you want to mix multiple patterns, as a general rule, vary the scale of the patterns and stay within your designated color palette.
New Design Trends: Patterned Cabinet Fronts
I feel like this was a trend years ago, and now it’s coming back again…but better. I mean, if Heidi Callier is doing it, it’s happening, and it looks beautiful when it’s done right. I love that she took the blue color of the solid cabinets and incorporated it into the patterns of the other cabinet sets. It really adds a fun playfulness to the room! I think the dark wood frame also helps elevate it (you know, besides all the other beautiful pieces in the space :)). If the frame were, say, white, I don’t think it would look as expensive.
Here’s another great example that’s a little more on the traditional side. The wallpaper seems to make the room feel more open than the solid wood walls (which are also beautiful but obviously have a different vibe). Meta Coleman is another designer who is incredible when it comes to color, pattern, and whimsy, so if you ever need an inspo, she should be on the list.
New design trends: indoor everyday tablecloths
Oh, indoor The tablecloths are here, people. Some of you may have never been astray, but most of the people in the design world have been astray by now. Also, as shown above, this is not just for traditional style homes. Any style, with the right pattern or color, can make a tablecloth. I love how you can instantly add color or pattern to your interior without any effort. Now, from all the examples here and from what I’ve seen, the round tables are getting completely dressed up. This doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t use it on your square or rectangular table.
This house is more traditional, but look at the scale of the pattern used on the tablecloth in contrast to the pattern on the walls. The walls are large scale, while the tablecloth is medium scale, making the look work beautifully together.
Look how playful and fresh it is! I love the ruffle and the color it adds to this otherwise pretty, but very neutral space.
If you’re worried about the feet getting caught in the fabric, you can choose a shorter tablecloth like this one.
Are you looking for a more layered but still very traditional look? Flurry! If you scroll down to the second slide, you’ll see the cutest little bistro table with a dark blue main tablecloth and a small white topper. Maybe this is a good secret way to hide stains on the main fabric when the table is not in use?? 🙂
Here we have Heidi again, but this time with a double tablecloth. See how he used the two patterns and how the pattern scales differ?? I will never stop talking about how important it is to do this.
New Design Trends: Fringe
I was looking for outfits for the wedding guests, so I visited probably every fashion site there is on the entire internet. And one thing is for sure, fringes are in trend. I mean, why not? It’s so fun and energetic. M taught me a long time ago that looking at fashion first will help to see what is going on for interiors. So this is your warning. Fringe is coming in on a bigger scale than usual and we are very happy about it. Don’t you want that sofa too??
Or is this the one I’ve been dreaming about?
But maybe furniture seems like too big of a commitment, and a larger one is better for you over the edge of your rug?
However, a fringed lamp shade will always be nice, and there are plenty of options out there now.
New Design Trends: Colorful Bathroom Fixtures
I really wish that colorful bathroom fixtures like tubs, sinks and toilets never go out of fashion. We all love vintage, colorful bathrooms, right? But I guess bold color isn’t for everyone, but take a look at this butter yellow pedestal sink. It is subtle but unique and looks incredible. Even Emily wants to have some colorful vintage pieces in the guest cottage!
You’ll have to scroll to the last slide, but this is another modern bathroom with a light green vintage toilet, and it’s perfect. It softens the modernity beautifully and adds a ton of character!
The same applies to this amazing butter-yellow toilet. I can’t get enough. A white toilet would have been fine, but it makes the whole room really sing and feel special.
Don’t even get me started on this yellow tub. This bathroom is modern and whimsical, and I want it!
I would also gladly take this light blue. I believe colored fixtures are more expensive, but if you have the budget, I think this is a nice and special option.
Hope it was cute and fun 🙂 Are you noticing any other subtle new design trends?? See you tomorrow with another great Arlene post!
